1948 – Methodist Sunday School

The photograph we’re looking at this month is just one of a number of
photographs – of various vintages – we have of children and teachers at the
Methodist Sunday School.
I’m not sure how this came to be in our archive, but there’s a note attached saying
that it was used in a display to celebrate the Institute centenary, in 2011, and was
donated by Brian Marklew.
The note suggests that it dates from around 1948 and it was almost certainly taken
in the school-room – the lower floor of the Methodist Church – in Farnhill Main
Street.

About the “Group photographs project”
A number of group photographs have been contributed to our archive with very
little information attached to them. The aim of this project is to capture as much
detail as we can from those who might remember the events and people shown.
For this photograph, our team of “identifiers” included: Brian Marklew, Margaret
Steptoe, Ruth Ward, Rosemary Hargreaves, Jill Ideson, and John Lofthouse.
